FNJ terms statute amendment historic

Kaski : The Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) has said that its central General Assembly and Statute Amendment Convention concluded on Friday in Pokhara was historic. An agreement to adopt the direct electoral system for the first time in the FNJ history was historic and it would expect to leave a long-term importance in regard with the FNJ future, the central leadership said.

Speaking at a press meet organised here today to unveil the special proposal and decisions endorsed by the statue convention, FNJ central president Govinda Acharya said new provisions in the statue have, mandatorily, guaranteed at least one position (vice president) to women and additional one woman member in the central working committee . The proposal to this regard was passed unanimously.

Though the proposal to amend the FNJ statute was introduced in the previous three general assemblies in Nepalgunj, Pokhara and Chitwan, it could not turn to fruition. “But this time it happens, making a history,” he said, adding that onwards, the FNJ, the umbrella organisation of Nepali media persons, would focus on its agenda. FNJ vice president Bipul Pokhrel said the provision of direct electoral system had led the FNJ towards a democratic system further. The FNJ General Assembly and Statute Convention concluded, by endorsing a 17-point proposal.
